Interior Design Trends 2016 Home Decor Ideas

Just as the formal living room is a thing of the past for many, the formal dining room is also going the way of the dinosaurs. People are starting to realize that pleasures are not experiences that should occur occasionally, but rather should be part of everyday life. Just like our crystal ball predicted, 2016 is going to be a huge year for minerals.

new home design trends 2016

Pet owners who are building new homes will seek everything from outdoor drinking fountains and play areas with pet hammocks to indoor feeding and grooming parlors with canine showers. Consumers are turning to easy-to-use apps on their smartphones to manage network-enabled lights, thermostats, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and even video surveillance. Think Google’s Nest, iPhone and Android technology, and the “Internet of Things.” These apps make daily chores less time-consuming while also helping homeowners to “go green” by reducing energy consumption. With over 36-years of an award winning career in the design industry, Patricia is licensed in interior design and certified in kitchen and bath design along with a full menu of design services. Pet customizations may be found in a specific room devoted to pets, or sprinkled around the house, but they definitely have a place on our list of 2016 trends.

A Look at The Top Home Design Trends For 2016

With a growing number of areas experiencing drought conditions, landscapers are turning to nature’s water savers – native and indigenous plants. Since these plants are already accustomed to the climate of the area, they help home owners conserve water. With a growing number of individuals working from home, home offices will often included in new home construction in 2016. A daily advice column that harkens back to Anne Landers' signature style.

new home design trends 2016

The sleek, contemporary look so popular in home design for younger homeowners has influenced the designs that are popular. Some details highlight the modern look – straight lines, high tech features, sleek hardware and lighting, contemporary bath fixtures, or restaurant-type appliances. However, homes looking for a cozier atmosphere borrow some of these features while modifying it with farmhouse sinks, crown molding, soft colors and more traditional exteriors. At the 2016 international design show in toronto, experts helped attendees pin down what the home trends will be for 2016. We could have a debate about minimal design for years to come, but at the end of the day, this is a trend that makes sense for healthy living.

An entryway is a great location for these materials if they complement the home’s interior. These architectural elements set the tone for an extravagant home experience. Stone and brick are available as synthetic materials, or you can purchase the real deal.

new home design trends 2016

Actually, we’ve seen a huge increase in interest over the last year. This includes simpler boxier designs, shed roofs and cleaner window lines. We’re also seeing where homeowners are modernizing a more traditional architecture, to create a healthy balance of modern and traditional home design.

AD100 Experts Predict the Biggest Interior Design Trends for 2016

The layout and design of integrated kitchens and living spaces allow families to all be together instead of blocked off by wall barriers. The open concept design is still going full steam as the most preferred layout of new home buyers. Home builders predict this trend will continue through 2016, with more and more people opting for an open floor plan that works well for both families and singles who like to entertain. With the most current open floor plan designs, home builders have noticed a decline in the number of home buyers wanting a grand entrance or foyer. Instead of separate entryway spaces, front doors are opening directly into the home, where the open concept can immediately welcome visitors. Many homeowners are looking to add a special touch and natural additions.

new home design trends 2016

With an aging population and the economy making it less common for people to imagine moving into a new house with every life stage, building a home as much for now as for later is becoming the norm. A universally designed home is one that works with all levels of physical ability, and it creates an ideal environment to grow old in. This exclusive House Plan 9625 features a clean, yet classic interior design. These neutrals provide a great backdrop to introduce pops of color like aqua, a big color for the 80s, but who knew it would come back? The new popular accent color is one of many shades of blue showing up in home décor – not only in window treatments, but in wallpaper, accent walls, pendant light fixtures and children’s rooms. It combines well with the trend to use gray as the base color for neutral walls.

Palladian windows often added to windows facing the front of the house are less popular. In conclusion, new home design trends of 2016 continue to build in the same direction as we’ve seen in the last couple years. Add florals to a space with the use of large patterned drapery fabric.

New master baths are also now trending to have closet access directly from the bath. This creates a true dressing suite for the homeowner who is then able to go from shower to fully dressed in the same space. Master baths are a special retreat for homeowners where more and more spa features are appearing – chandeliers, vessel sinks, dramatic tile selections and wall-mounted fixtures.

In some cases, landowners may be fined by local authorities for using invasive plants. Not only does landscaping with native plants solve these issues, it often requires far less maintenance – ideal for homeowners who would spend their time and money on other pursuits. A thoroughly modern and gorgeous kitchen will inspire even the most amateur of cooks to spend time in it. Clothes dryers are regularly used household appliances, and from time to ti... Not only is this an eco-friendly flooring option, it also adds personality and character to your rooms. We don’t expect to see modern home design replace traditional architecture, but it definitely has its place in the market.

new home design trends 2016

This year we will see a lot of grays and neutral pastels like blue, green, and tinted whites. Perhaps we will also see some lighter wood tones like whitewashed woods, white oak and walnuts. Most buyers still prefer stainless steel appliances although some have chosen to install white appliances to complete the look. However, a new slate finish is now offered and has the advantage of being a flat finish that shows fingerprints less but still has the look of stainless steel. Other new options seen in kitchen selections include open shelving in place of upper cabinets and gray color tones in the cabinets.

10 Home Design Trends for 2016

What better way to bring attention to one of the most important things in your house than with a dark, bold frame? If there's a view that goes along with that natural light, accentuate it with a bold black window frame. Colored lights in unusual places that can be controlled via a smartphone or tablet app are two more popular trends among homeowners. Examples of places where LED lights may be used include on showerheads and above kitchen cabinets. LEDs are an easy way to make otherwise unexceptional places more visually interesting. This brand new ranch House Plan 9658 features a beautiful Craftsman exterior and functional open floor plan with every amenity a growing family needs.

Home Design Trends: 3 things to look for in 2016

Perhaps linked to the desire for open-floor-plan living, designers are providing spaces that blur the line between indoors and outdoors. Think living areas with expanses of glass that open onto patios or decks, which become extended living areas. Outdoor kitchens, outdoor “living rooms” with indoor/outdoor comfortable furniture, and outdoor fireplaces or firepits all play into designing living spaces that connect with nature. Now with advancements in printing, and the artistry of talented designers the demand for wallpaper has reached a design crescendo. Most popular in homes close to the shore, fixtures sealed with beveled or seeded glass are another sign of nautical influence.

new home design trends 2016

While modern works in modern homes, traditional designs can age, and it’s harder to match them since there are so many different styles that fall into this category. Build with a transitional design in mind and you get the best of both worlds. Homebuilders are increasingly looking to nature for design inspiration.

More In Home & Living

These charming windows, also known as fanlights, typically reside just above doors and below the roof. Transom windows add interest to a home because they are aesthetically pleasing, as well as functional. Although you won’t be spending too much time looking through transom windows, they will allow light to pour into a room – something most people desire in a home. Builders like M/I Homes are finding that screened porches are increasingly popular—an area that is not only bug-free but contains pets or children playing there. Small or large, these porches can include lighting, ceiling fans, fireplaces or fire pits, and piped in music as well as furniture arrangements that make the space as appealing as the inside living areas.

The layout and design of integrated kitchens and living spaces allow families to all be together instead of blocked off by wall barriers. The Ultimate in Luxury: His and Her Bathrooms.

But the most dramatic new trend in master baths is the replacement of the huge soaker tub that usually occupied a large corner space. Newly popular is the free standing tub, often a work of art in itself, installed away from the wall with no tile surround. Elaborate or simple, modern or traditional, the tub adds drama to the bath. These tubs will be either sitting directly on the floor, on a pedestal or on claw feet – an imitation of tubs from former times. Mostly white porcelain tubs, they can have sides of varying colors and are even available in copper or stainless steel. The faucets are either floor-mounted, wall-mounted or attached to the side or end of the tub, often including a spray in addition to the faucets.

In true fashion, runway often translates into residential design trends. New innovative home design trends are the highlights of the Home Builders Association’s fall Parade of Homes as well as of the spring Southern Ideal Home Show. It’s what gets us excited about viewing new houses and going to these shows. It’s what guides selections of new homes for buyers or of remodeling projects for homeowners.

If The Dyson Airwrap Is Too Expensive, The Shark Flexstyle Might Be The Perfect Gift

If you’re feeling adventurous, a mix of the primary colors red, blue and yellow are a unique and increasingly popular choice. Add some variety to your color scheme by painting shutters, trim and window frames a darker or lighter shade of your main selection. Finish the look off with an unexpected complementary color for the door. If trees and plants surround your home, choose a pastel color that contrasts earthy tones to make it stand out.
